What running payroll in Slovakia involves

If you already employ people through your own Slovak entity, you stay the legal employer, but you still have to run payroll correctly every month: income tax withheld for Finančná správa, social insurance and an uncapped accident-insurance contribution paid to Sociálna poisťovňa, and health insurance paid to the employee’s own chosen health insurer, three separate registrations rather than one. This is where a specialist payroll partner earns its place: you keep the employment relationship, they keep the mechanics right across all three.

01

You stay the employer

You stay the legal employer of your Slovak staff. The payroll partner runs the monthly mechanics; you keep the employment relationship.

02

Accurate every cycle

Income tax, social insurance, and health insurance calculated and withheld correctly, payslips issued, and statutory filings made to Sociálna poisťovňa, the employee’s health insurer, and Finančná správa on schedule, every month.

03

Multi-country consolidation

Run payroll across several markets under one partner and one process, rather than a different vendor and standard in every country.

How managed Slovak payroll works, step by step

From onboarding your employee data to filing and reconciliation.

01 — Scope & onboard

We map your entity, headcount, and where you employ people, place you with the right vetted Slovak payroll partner, and onboard your employee data.

02 — Set up calculations

Income tax, Sociálna poisťovňa social insurance, health insurance, and any statutory benefits configured correctly to current Slovak rules, so every payslip is right from the first run.

03 — Run monthly payroll

Salaries calculated, income tax, social security, and health insurance withheld, payslips issued, and people paid on schedule, every cycle.

04 — File & reconcile

Statutory filings to Sociálna poisťovňa, the employee’s health insurer, and Finančná správa made on time, with annual reconciliation handled for you.

What payroll in Slovakia costs

Your statutory employer costs, plus a payroll partner fee. Slovakia’s employer burden is predictable but spans three separate registrations, tax, Sociálna poisťovňa, and each employee’s own health insurer; the value of the partner is accuracy and time, in a system where mistakes are visible and penalised.

Employer social insurance, health & accident cover

  • 24.4% social insurance to Sociálna poisťovňa (sickness, old-age pension, disability, unemployment, a guarantee fund and a reserve fund), capped at EUR 16,764/month
  • 11.00% health insurance (5.50% for employers of disabled employees), with no cap
  • 0.80% accident insurance, with no cap, continuing above the ceiling

Combined employer cost runs to roughly 36.2% of gross up to the ceiling, dropping to about 11.8% above it.

Minimum wage (2026)

EUR 915 a month (EUR 5.259 an hour on a 40-hour week), up from EUR 816 in 2025 and effective 1 January 2026, the base figure every payroll run must apply from day one of the year.

Income tax (employee)

Four progressive bands run monthly at source: 19% to EUR 43,983.32, 25% to EUR 60,349.21, 30% to EUR 75,010.32, and 35% above, reconciled each year. Getting the band wrong on a single payslip is the easiest of these mistakes to make.

Payroll partner fee

A transparent per-employee or per-payslip fee. We benchmark across our vetted network, typically 15 to 25% below going direct.

Why run it through Bradford Jacobs

One partner, many countries

If you run payroll across several markets, we consolidate it through vetted partners under one point of contact, not a different vendor and a different standard in every country, whether that means Slovakia’s three separate payroll registrations or another market’s own system.

  • Independent advice
  • Vetted partners only
  • On your side at renewal

Pricing you can’t get direct

Slovakia runs three separate payroll registrations: tax withholding with Finančná správa, social insurance with Sociálna poisťovňa, and health insurance with each employee’s own chosen insurer. A wrong split on a single payslip is an easy, visible compliance-filing mistake. We benchmark across our payroll network for rates typically 15 to 25% below going direct, and renegotiate for you at renewal.

  • 15-25% below direct
  • Network benchmarking
  • Renegotiated for you

Triple-registration rules that expose risk

The Sociálna poisťovňa contribution split across six funds plus accident insurance, the four-tier income-tax withholding, and the annual reconciliation deadline. We place you with partners who get the specifics right, and we stay on your side if anything needs escalating.

  • Direct escalation
  • No support queues
  • Named account contact

20+ years and the local detail

Two decades running compliant payroll across global markets: the deadlines, the filings, and the year-end reconciliation detail that decides whether a payroll run is right.

  • Two decades of payroll
  • Deadlines & filings
  • Year-end handled

Built to scale across markets

Run payroll in one country or twenty through one partner and one process. As you add markets, the standard does not fragment, you keep a single point of contact and consistent compliance everywhere.

  • One process everywhere
  • Single point of contact
  • Consistent compliance

The payroll slips Sociálna poisťovňa never misses

These are the ones that catch foreign employers, and the reason a specialist partner pays for itself.

Tax & deduction rates

Misapplying the four-tier income-tax withholding. Getting the employer-versus-employee split wrong across social insurance, health insurance, and the uncapped accident-insurance layer. Missing the 2026 change to employer-paid sick leave. Each is easy to get wrong alone and visible to Finančná správa and Sociálna poisťovňa when you do.

Filings, deadlines & reporting

Late remittance to Sociálna poisťovňa, a health insurer, or Finančná správa, where penalties and interest apply automatically. None of these are hard for a specialist; all are easy to get wrong alone. That is the whole case for getting your Slovak payroll partner right.

Your questions answered

Straight answers on running compliant payroll in Slovakia.

Yes. Payroll outsourcing assumes you are the legal employer, which usually means you have a Slovak entity, typically an s.r.o. (spoločnosť s ručením obmedzeným). If you have no entity and do not want one yet, you need an EOR instead, where the partner is the legal employer. We will confirm which applies to you.
Income tax calculation and remittance, employer and employee social insurance and health insurance, statutory benefits and leave, payslips, and all statutory filings to Sociálna poisťovňa, the employee’s health insurer, and Finančná správa. You keep the employment relationship; they keep it compliant and on time.
Three changes matter this year. The minimum wage rose to EUR 915 a month from 1 January 2026, up from EUR 816. Employer-paid sick leave also extends from the first 10 days of illness to the first 14, with Sociálna poisťovňa taking over from day 15. And for 2026 only, 8 May and 15 September are suspended as paid rest days, even though they remain nominal state holidays, so the 100% premium for working them still applies but the automatic paid day off does not. A good payroll partner tracks all three so nothing is missed, one of the most common payroll mistakes when several rules change in the same year.
Around 36.2% of gross salary up to the EUR 16,764/month cap: 24.4% social insurance to Sociálna poisťovňa across six funds, 11.00% health insurance, and 0.80% accident insurance, the last two uncapped. Above the cap, only health and accident insurance keep applying, so the employer on-cost drops to about 11.8% of gross. Add the transparent payroll partner fee and you have your all-in cost.
Yes, and it is one of the main reasons companies come to us. One point of contact and a consistent process across markets, rather than a separate provider and a different standard in every country.
Yes. When you incorporate and become the legal employer, we move your people from the EOR arrangement onto your own compliant Slovak payroll, and manage the handover so nothing is missed.
