What an Employer of Record does for you in Slovakia

An Employer of Record is a company that legally employs your Slovak staff on your behalf. You choose the person and direct their work day to day. The EOR is the legal employer on paper, which is what lets you build a team in Slovakia without forming your own company.

In practice the EOR partner takes on everything that needs a Slovak legal entity and local expertise: a compliant employment contract under the Zákonník práce (Slovak Labour Code), monthly payroll with income tax, Sociálna poisťovňa (Social Insurance Agency) contributions, and health-insurance withholding, employer contributions and all statutory filings to Sociálna poisťovňa, the employee’s chosen health insurer, and Finančná správa SR, statutory benefits and leave, and compliant onboarding and lawful exits with the correct statutory notice, since Slovakia is not at-will. You get a working team in days. The EOR carries the legal and compliance weight; you carry the commercial relationship. The only question worth spending time on is which partner is genuinely strong in Slovakia, and that is the question we answer for you.

How it works: four steps to a compliant hire

From first call to a compliant Slovak hire at work, usually in days.

01 — Scope & quote

We map the role, salary, and start date, and come back with a clear all-in monthly cost. No guesswork, no hidden extras.

02 — Compliant contract

Your employment contract is drafted to Slovak standards by the partner, and we sanity-check the terms and pricing before you sign. Compliant from day one.

03 — Onboard in days

A correct Slovak contract is issued under the Zákonník práce, with all statutory terms from day one. Your hire can start in days.

04 — Payroll & compliance run

Income tax, Sociálna poisťovňa contributions, and health insurance calculated and withheld, payslips issued, statutory filings made to Sociálna poisťovňa and Finančná správa SR. You direct the work; the compliance just runs.

What EOR in Slovakia costs

Two parts: the statutory cost of employing someone, and the EOR partner fee. In Slovakia the statutory employer cost runs across Sociálna poisťovňa’s six-fund contribution, a distinct uncapped accident-insurance layer, and a separately chosen health insurer, rather than one combined tax. We make both transparent before you commit, so there are no surprises.

Employer social insurance

24.4% to Sociálna poisťovňa, capped at EUR 16,764/month, covering sickness, old-age pension, disability, unemployment, a guarantee fund and a reserve fund, six funds under one roof. On top: 11.00% health insurance (5.50% for employers of disabled employees) and 0.80% accident insurance, both uncapped and both continuing above the ceiling. Combined employer cost runs to roughly 36.2% of gross up to the ceiling, dropping to about 11.8% above it. Predictable and fully costed before you commit.

Minimum wage (2026)

EUR 915 per month (EUR 5.259 per hour, 40-hour week) from 1 January 2026, up from EUR 816 in 2025. One national rate, set automatically at 60% of the national average wage.

Income tax (employee)

Four-tier progressive rate: 19% up to EUR 43,983.32/year, 25% up to EUR 60,349.21/year, 30% up to EUR 75,010.32/year, 35% above. Withheld monthly at source from the employee’s pay. Borne by the employee, not added to your cost.

EOR partner fee

A transparent per-employee monthly fee. We benchmark across our vetted network, typically 15 to 25% below going direct, and renegotiate for you at renewal.

Why run it through Bradford Jacobs

We know which EOR partners are genuinely strong in Slovakia, by sector and by complexity. We place you with the right one, at pricing you will not get going direct, and stay on your side for the life of the relationship.

Independent, not a single provider

We are independent. We assess what your business needs and place you with the best vetted partner, secure with pricing you will not get by going direct. We stay with you at every stage of business growth. You get advice, not a product pitch.

Pricing you can’t get direct

Slovakia’s employer cost splits across Sociálna poisťovňa’s six funds, a separate uncapped accident-insurance layer, and a health insurer of the employee’s choosing, which makes it easy for an inexperienced quote to miss the accident-insurance layer above the contribution ceiling and under-cost a hire. We benchmark across our partner network for rates typically 15 to 25% below going direct, and renegotiate on your behalf at renewal. Most companies do not know how much room there is to negotiate. We do.

Built for conversion to your own entity

Most companies use EOR for 12 to 24 months, then move to their own Slovak s.r.o. (spoločnosť s ručením obmedzeným, limited liability company). We plan that crossover and manage the transition when the economics justify it.

Why an EOR is the fastest compliant way into Slovakia

Two things slow foreign employers down in Slovakia: the time to incorporate, and the risk of getting the Zákonník práce’s notice, severance, and dismissal rules wrong. An EOR removes both.

Working time, leave & contracts

Compliance handled under one national Labour Code. Slovak employment law requires mandatory Sociálna poisťovňa and health-insurance contributions, and dismissal that is only lawful on statutory grounds, with statutory notice periods and severance that vary by ground and tenure, rather than at-will termination. From 1 January 2026, employer-paid sick leave itself extends from the first 10 days to the first 14 days of an employee’s illness, with Sociálna poisťovňa taking over from day 15. An EOR carries all of it correctly from day one, so a wrong assumption never becomes a liability.

Operational in days, not weeks

Incorporating in Slovakia takes several weeks, and you cannot legally employ anyone until the Commercial Register entry completes. An EOR removes that wait entirely: a compliant Slovak contract is issued and your hire starts in days. You prove the market first, then incorporate later only if the headcount justifies it. This is the real value of EOR in Slovakia: speed into a market with a genuinely layered contribution system, with the compliance carried by an expert.

Everything your Slovak EOR covers

One transparent monthly fee per employee covers all of this. No hidden extras.

Compliant Slovak contract

A compliant Slovak employment contract under the Zákonník práce, issued and maintained for you.

Payroll, Sociálna poisťovňa & health insurance

Monthly payroll run, with income tax, Sociálna poisťovňa contributions, and health-insurance contributions calculated, withheld, and filed correctly each month.

Statutory benefits

All statutory benefits administered: paid annual leave, the 11 public holidays confirmed as non-working days for 2026, maternity and paternity leave (Sociálna poisťovňa-funded), employer-paid sick leave extended to the first 14 days from 1 January 2026, and statutory notice on exit, which Slovakia requires since it is not at-will. Employee Sociálna poisťovňa contributions and health insurance run roughly 14.40% combined (9.40% Sociálna poisťovňa plus 5.00% health insurance), deducted from salary, not billed to you.

Compliance & support

Ongoing HR compliance and a single point of contact, for the life of the engagement.

Your questions answered

Straight answers on how Employer of Record works in Slovakia.

Legally, your hire is employed by the Slovak EOR partner we place you with, which is what keeps you compliant without an entity. Day to day they work for you: you set the work, the goals, the relationship. You get the team; the partner carries the legal employer obligations.
Usually within days once the role and salary are agreed, with a compliant Slovak contract from day one. Compare that to the several weeks an incorporation can take, during which you cannot legally employ anyone.
Predictable, at roughly 36.2% of gross salary up to the contribution ceiling of EUR 16,764/month: 24.4% to Sociálna poisťovňa (covering sickness, old-age pension, disability, unemployment, the guarantee fund and the reserve fund) plus 11.00% health insurance and 0.80% accident insurance, both uncapped. Above the ceiling, the Sociálna poisťovňa contribution stops but health and accident insurance keep applying, so the employer cost above that point runs to roughly 11.8% rather than falling away. Add the transparent EOR partner fee and you have your all-in cost.
Yes, when done properly. The EOR is a real Slovak legal employer meeting all Zákonník práce, Sociálna poisťovňa, health-insurance, and Finančná správa SR obligations. The risk is using an under-resourced partner, which is exactly why we place you with vetted partners and stay on your side.
The compliant contract, monthly payroll (income tax, Sociálna poisťovňa contributions, and health-insurance withholding), employer contributions, statutory benefits and leave administration, and ongoing HR compliance. We give you one all-in monthly figure up front, with no hidden extras.
Yes, and most companies do once the headcount and permanence justify it. We manage the transition from EOR to your own Slovak s.r.o., and can support the incorporation itself. Most use EOR for 12 to 24 months first.
Slovakia has 11 paid public holidays confirmed as non-working days for 2026. Two other nominal state holidays, 8 May and 15 September, keep their state-holiday status but are suspended as paid rest days for 2026 only, under a November 2025 amendment tied to the 2026 consolidation package. If an employee is required to work either date, the standard pay premium for working a holiday still applies. Your EOR partner tracks changes like this so your payroll and leave calendar stay correct.
No, that is the point of the arrangement: the EOR partner is your Slovak legal employer, so you never need your own s.r.o., an a.s. (akciová spoločnosť, joint-stock company), or any other Slovak vehicle just to hire. Corporate tax and VAT only become relevant once you have your own entity, which is a separate conversation we can have when the headcount justifies it.
