What running payroll in Chile involves

If you already employ people through your own Chilean SpA (Sociedad por Acciones), you stay the legal employer, but running payroll correctly every month means more than paying salaries on time. Chile recalculates income-tax withholding brackets against the UTM (Unidad Tributaria Mensual) every month, the SII republishes the table each time it moves. Several statutory caps sit in a second, separately-indexed unit, the UF (Unidad de Fomento). And the money does not go to one social-security body, it goes to several: the employee’s own AFP, their own Fonasa or Isapre, your chosen Mutualidad for work-accident cover, and the SII for tax and F29 filings. That is genuinely more moving parts than a single-body system, and it is exactly where a specialist payroll partner earns its place.

01

You stay the employer

You stay the legal employer of your Chilean staff. The payroll partner runs the monthly mechanics; you keep the employment relationship.

02

Accurate every cycle

Income tax withheld against the current UTM table, AFP, health, and unemployment-insurance contributions calculated correctly, payslips issued, and statutory filings made to the SII, AFP, Fonasa/Isapre, and your Mutualidad on schedule, every month.

03

Multi-country consolidation

Run payroll across several markets under one partner and one process, rather than a different vendor and standard in every country.

How managed Chilean payroll works, step by step

From onboarding your employee data to filing and reconciliation.

01 — Scope & onboard

We map your entity, headcount, and where you employ people, place you with the right vetted Chilean payroll partner, and onboard your employee data.

02 — Set up calculations

Income-tax withholding set against the current UTM bracket table, plus AFP, Fonasa/Isapre, Mutualidad, and Seguro de Cesantia contributions configured correctly to current Chilean rules, so every payslip is right from the first run.

03 — Run monthly payroll

Salaries calculated, income tax withheld against that month’s UTM table, AFP, health, and unemployment contributions deducted, payslips issued, and people paid on schedule, every cycle.

04 — File & reconcile

Monthly F29 filings to the SII, plus AFP, Fonasa/Isapre, and Mutualidad remittances made on time, with annual reconciliation handled for you.

What payroll in Chile costs

Your statutory employer costs, plus a payroll partner fee. Chile’s employer burden is not one flat number, it is a stack of separately capped contributions plus a still-phasing-in pension-reform charge; the value of the partner is getting every cap and every remittance right, every month.

Employer contribution stack

SIS (disability/survivor) ~1.5%, Seguro de Cesantia 2.4% indefinite or 3% fixed-term, and work-accident cover 0.90%-3.4% plus 0.03% SANNA, most capped at 90 or 135.2 UF a month, plus the new Ley 21.735 pension-reform contribution: 1% now, rising to 7% by 2033.

Minimum wage (2026)

CLP $553,553 per month for workers aged 18-65, effective 1 May 2026 under Ley N21.830, one national rate with no regional variation to track.

Income tax (employee)

Progressive IUSC withheld monthly against the UTM table: exempt to 13.5 UTM/month, then 7 taxed bands from 4% up to 40% above 310 UTM/month, recalculated every time the UTM moves.

Payroll partner fee

A transparent per-employee or per-payslip fee. We benchmark across our vetted network, typically 15 to 25% below going direct.

Why run it through Bradford Jacobs

One partner, many countries

If you run payroll across several markets, we consolidate it through vetted partners under one point of contact, not a different vendor and a different standard in every country.

  • Independent advice
  • Vetted partners only
  • On your side at renewal

Pricing you can’t get direct

Chile runs four separate remittance relationships every month, not one: the employee’s own AFP, their own Fonasa or Isapre, your chosen Mutualidad for work-accident cover, and the SII for tax withholding, each with its own cap and its own filing. We benchmark across our payroll network for rates typically 15 to 25% below going direct, and renegotiate for you at renewal.

  • 15-25% below direct
  • Network benchmarking
  • Renegotiated for you

Dual-unit rules that expose risk

Chile prices its own payroll system in two different indexed units at once, the UTM for income-tax brackets and the UF for social-security caps, and remits across four separate bodies each month. We place you with partners who track both units and every deadline correctly, and we stay on your side if anything needs escalating.

  • Direct escalation
  • No support queues
  • Named account contact

20+ years and the local detail

Two decades running compliant payroll across global markets: the monthly F29 filing, the UTM-linked withholding recalculation, and the AFP, Fonasa/Isapre, and Mutualidad remittances that have to land correctly every cycle.

  • Two decades of payroll
  • Deadlines & filings
  • Year-end handled

Built to scale across markets

Run payroll in one country or twenty through one partner and one process. As you add markets, the standard does not fragment, you keep a single point of contact and consistent compliance everywhere.

The payroll slips the SII never misses

These are the ones that catch foreign employers in Chile, and the reason a specialist partner pays for itself.

Tax & deduction rates

Withholding income tax against last month’s UTM table instead of the current one. Missing a UF-denominated cap on AFP, unemployment, or work-accident contributions. Applying the wrong Seguro de Cesantia rate on a fixed-term contract. Each is easy to get wrong alone and visible to the SII and Superintendencia de Pensiones when you do.

Filings, deadlines & reporting

Late F29 filing with the SII, or late remittance to an AFP, Fonasa/Isapre, or Mutualidad, where penalties and interest apply automatically. None of these are hard for a specialist; all are easy to get wrong alone. That is the whole case for getting your Chilean payroll partner right.

Your questions answered

Straight answers on running compliant payroll in Chile.

Yes. Payroll outsourcing assumes you are the legal employer, which usually means you have a Chilean entity, typically an SpA. If you have no entity and do not want one yet, you need an EOR instead, where the partner is the legal employer. We will confirm which applies to you.
Income-tax withholding and remittance, employer and employee contributions to AFP, Fonasa/Isapre, and Mutualidad, statutory benefits and leave, payslips, and monthly F29 filings with the SII. You keep the employment relationship; they keep it compliant and on time.
The 2025 pension reform, Ley 21.735, added a new employer-only pension contribution on top of the existing SIS charge, and it steps up every August. It stands at 1% of taxable pay now, through 31 July 2026, and is legislated to reach a new-component rate of 7% by 2033, taking the combined employer pension-track total to 8.5% by then. It is the single most volatile figure on Chile’s payroll, and a good partner tracks each August step-up so your costing never falls behind.
There is no single flat percentage to quote. Chile’s employer burden is a stack of separately capped contributions across SIS, unemployment insurance, work-accident cover, and the still-phasing-in pension-reform charge, most capped in UF rather than a flat peso ceiling. We work out your specific all-in figure, plus the transparent payroll partner fee, once we know the contract type and salary band.
Yes, and it is one of the main reasons companies come to us. One point of contact and a consistent process across markets, rather than a separate provider and a different standard in every country.
Yes. When you incorporate and become the legal employer, we move your people from the EOR arrangement onto your own compliant Chilean payroll, and manage the handover so nothing is missed.
